How to Properly Charge Vape Pen Batteries

In order to correctly charge vape pen batteries, it is important to first make sure they are compatible with the charger you are using. The voltage, current, and charge speed of the charger must be compatible to avoid permanent damage to the batteries. The easiest way to achieve this is by purchasing a charger that is designated for your specific vape pen.

Things to Avoid While Charging

Overcharging: If you periodically plug in your charger for long periods of time, listen up. When your batteries are fully charged and still receiving energy from the charger, they have to do something with the extra energy being feed into them. Typically, that means they begin to heat up and build pressure. A battery with too much pressure can rupture, leak chemicals or gas, and even explode (although this is very rare).

Undercharging: While undercharging is less harmful than overcharging, it can negatively affect the battery’s “memory.” When the battery is consistently undercharged, it’s capacity to reach and maintain a full charge is diminished because it “thinks” it is already partially charged. This not only decreases the amount of charge that it will hold, it also decreases its lifespan.

How to Extend Your Battery Life

1. Use your Vape Pen Regularly
The more you use your vape pen, the easier it is for power to flow through the battery’s cells.

2. Store Your Vape Pen Properly
Avoid direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. If you are going to a beach or summer concert, keep your vape in a cooler or shaded area. You should also protect your battery from sustaining any large impacts.

3. Don’t Let the Vape Pen Battery Hit 0%
Just like with your cell phone, you’ll ideally recharge your battery after it passes 10% remaining power. Allowing the device to die completely does have adverse effects on your battery life.

4. Don’t Store your Battery With Less than a 50% Charge
Storing batteries with 50% or less charge will require them to work harder to deliver the power you need to use your device and therefore drain faster. Instead, fully charge the device prior to stowing it away.

5. Separate the Battery from the Pen When Not in Use
Similarly, to how you’re phone charger pulls electricity from the wall even when your phone is not attached, a vaporizer, when connected to the battery, is always draining a little bit of juice.

6. Do Not Leave the Battery Charging
When you’ve finished charging, take your battery off of the charger as soon as possible to avoid overcharging, which can exhaust the device and reduce its lifespan.

7. Keep Threads and Contacts and Battery Clean
Make sure the contacts between the battery and the vaporizer remain clean. Use a cotton swab, Q-tip or alcohol pad and regularly wipe down the threads and contacts where your vaporizer and battery clasp together.
