The simple answer to the question, "Can you dab CBD?", is “Yes”. However, there are a lot more details that we’re going to dive into below. There are a few different kinds of popular CBD dabs that you’ll see in stores these days. Each type of dab has a different consistency and production method used to create it. There are also different ways to take a dab, depending on the kind of experience you are looking to have. However, all types of CBD wax and methods of dabbing will have similar side effects in the end. Read on to learn about the potential benefits of dabbing CBD.

What Types of CBD Dabs Are There?

There are a few different methods used for making wax concentrates. These methods can be used on hemp plants in order to extract CBD from the plant material. The resulting products are often wax-like but come in varying levels of malleability and colors. There are a few very common types of CBD dabs though, including shatter, budder, and crystals.

How is a CBD Dab Made?

Wax is either made using a solvent-based or solventless production method. In the solvent-based process, hemp plant material is loaded into a tube, and then a solvent is used to strip the cannabinoids from the plant. The solvents used for this method of extraction are usually carbon dioxide, butane, propane, or ethanol. After the cannabinoids have been extracted, the final step is to remove every trace of solvent and plant matter from the wax. The solventless method can use a variety of tools and techniques, but the most common process involves a rosin press. Both of these processes result in making wax that has a concentration of CBD with full-spectrum hemp plant compounds.

CBD Shatter

Shatter is one of the most common types of CBD wax available. It has a firm, glass-like texture and glossy appearance, and can be anywhere from a golden yellow to an amber color that is almost transparent. When you use a dab tool to break it apart this type of wax will shatter. It can also have a snap ‘n’ pull like consistency that is less like glass and more like stretched taffy.

CBD Budder

Budder is a type of wax that has a sugar-like consistency. It spreads easily, like butter or icing. It can also go by the name of badder, sugar, or sauce, depending on the ratio of crystals to liquid extract.

CBD Crystals

CBD Crystals or crystalline can look like salt rocks or powder. It is also often white in color. Crystals are a little more difficult to break apart with a dab tool, but a chunk of it can easily be loaded into a bowl without a mess.

How Do You Dab CBD?

Now that you know the types of CBD dabs there are, you’ll need to know how to dab them. Thankfully, there are two main options for dabbing CBD wax. Both methods will have the same results in the end though.

Dab Rigs

The traditional method for dabbing involves a dab rig and butane torch. Alternatively, you can attach an e-nail to the dab rig instead. The e-nail attachment heats the bowl in a more consistent, and slightly safer fashion. With either heating method though, the CBD wax is scooped up with a dab tool and added to the bowl of the rig to be dabbed.

Wax pen is perfect for CBD

Wax Pens

A more convenient option for inhaling CBD wax is by using a wax pen, which is a type of portable vaporizer. These devices heat the CBD wax to the correct temperature to vaporize. They can handle an amount of wax that is often smaller than what can be loaded into a dab rig bowl though. But it is a convenient option for micro-dosing without a mess.

Why Dab CBD?

Dabbing is a method of smoking that allows you to inhale concentrated compounds, without excess plant matter. In comparison to smoking dry herb, dabbing will provide a faster onset of side effects. CBD wax has a higher concentration of CBD compounds, in comparison to the dry herb that was used to make it. Because of this, when you consume CBD in this method it also tends to have more intense effects than smoking. If you’ve vaped CBD oil and smoked CBD flower before, the intensity of dabbing lands somewhere in between. Vaping CBD oil can have effects for longer, while smoking flower can make those effects onset faster. Dabbing combines those two factors, and the effects will come on quickly and last for a few hours. Dabbing CBD wax also allows you to smoke less material and achieve more intense effects. It can be a bit too intense for some smokers, but for others, it’s exactly what they are looking for.

When it comes to trying out different kinds of CBD, dabbing is a method that should be considered. It can take a bit of research to narrow down what type of CBD wax you prefer and what tools you prefer to use to inhale it. If you’re new to both CBD and dabbing, then a wax pen and shatter is a good place to start. If you’re used to dabbing and new to CBD, then dabbing CBD wax might be a no-brainer for you. Now it’s just a matter of finding the perfect type of CBD wax to go with your rig. No matter how you like to dab and what kind of wax you prefer though, there are some great benefits for giving CBD dabs a try.
