As the popularity of vaping continues to grow, vaping device manufacturers push forward in finding new and innovative ways to enhance your experience. This often includes new hardware or features. First, it was mods, now it is vape pods. While these clean and discreet vaping systems offer a number of advantages, you also need to be aware of what you need to be careful about.

What Is a Vape Pod System?

Vaping devices come in a wide range of difficulty and features, with vape pod devices falling somewhere in the middle of the spectrum between your basic e-cigarette or vape pen devices and your more advanced vape mod devices. Typically, most vapers will begin their vaping journey with some form of a simple and inexpensive vaping device, such as a vape pen. This is because they are easy to use, cheap, discreet, and extremely portable.

Once vapers are more familiar with vaping and vaping devices, they tend to upgrade to more advanced options like box mods or vape pods. The beauty of vape pod systems is they offer the best features of both worlds. Vape pod devices offer the power found in box mod vapes, with the easy portability you have with using a vape pen.

Vape pod systems are fairly simple devices. They generally are composed of a battery and some form of a pod (the part that contains or houses your vaping material). They are rechargeable and come in one of two different styles - open or closed.

In most cases, vape pod systems tend to have a USB stick-like appearance. However, there are some models designed to look more like a box mod device. Pod vape systems are generally budget-friendly and can come pre-filled, but keep in mind they are not universally compatible. In fact, most brands have their own line of vape pods that are only compatible with their specific brand (or even specific device) of vaporizers.

Difference Between Open Vape Pod and Closed Vape Pod System?

When it comes to vape pod systems, there are two distinct types - opened system vape pods and closed system vape pods. While each has its own benefits and disadvantages, it is ultimately up to you and your personal preferences on which option is the best for you.

Open Vape Pod System

Open vape pod systems were created to allow the user to manually refill the device. This allows the user more options to select their concentrate (including varying flavors, strengths, and thicknesses). When compared to a closed system, open vape pods tend to provide stronger vape production and smoother hits. However, open vape systems require more maintenance (changing coils, replacing cartridges, etc.) and it can become a pain to constantly have to refill your device.

Closed Vape Pod System

Closed vape pod systems work very similar to a cartomizer. To refill your device, simply click the new pre-filled cartridge into your device and you are ready to go. While closed vape pod systems offer a number of flavors and strengths, there will be fewer options than open systems. Closed systems are great for users who are looking for a low maintenance, budget-friendly option that is easy to work with. Keep in mind, closed vape pod systems are prone to experiencing issues with weak draws.

What Are the Advantages of Using a Vape Pod?

Vape pod systems are a great starter system and offer several benefits to users. These advantages include (but are not limited to):

Extremely Portable

One of the biggest advantages of vape pod systems is the overall convenience. They are extremely portable, light, and discreet. No matter what size you choose, even the largest vape pod system available will still be smaller than an average box mod vaping device.

More Flavor

Vape pod systems can vaporize thicker oil concentrates. Therefore, there are fewer limits on what flavors and concentrates you can choose from. Plus, the thicker the liquid/oil concentrate is, the more flavor impact you will receive from your vape.

Very Discreet

Due to their small size, vape pod systems are easy to conceal in your hand or pocket. While you can produce a fair amount of vapor when using a vape pod, it is can still easily be controlled.

Low Maintenance

To complete their simplistic design, vape pod systems tend to be small and lightweight devices. Not only does this allow them to be discreet and to fit just about anywhere, but it also provides the user with practically zero maintenance to consider. In most cases, to clean your device you only need to wipe the battery, pin connections, and your pod container.

User-Friendly

One of the best parts about vape pod systems is how easy to operate they are. There is no learning curve. To use, you simply pop your pod in (and when necessary, out) of the designated battery section, and click the operating button to use. In some cases, you can even activate your device by simply taking a puff.

Strong Puffs

Another great benefit to using vape pod systems is the strength of the hit. While considerably less expensive, vape pods can provide a hit just as gratifying as larger vaporizers can provide. Plus, many companies offer a wide range of concentration strengths provided in the pre-filled vape pod options.

What Are the Disadvantages of Using a Vape Pod?

While vape pod systems offer many benefits, they have a few downsides as well. Whether these issues matter is up to you and ultimately will boil down to your personal style and preference to whether or not vape pod systems are right for you.

Lack of Growth

Vape pods are great. Unfortunately, not everyone wants the same experience time and time again. Many users like the ability for growth (or to get a little more out of their device). Unfortunately, vape pods lack this capability. While you may be ready to move forward, your device may not be able to; and you may find yourself in need of an upgrade.

Less Selection

While vape pods do offer a larger selection of flavors (due to their ability to use thicker concentrates), if you use a vape pod system, your options still pale in comparison to other vaping devices.

Not for Cloud Chasers

While vape pod systems can provide you with a nice hit, they do not produce huge amounts of vapor. Therefore, if you are a cloud chaser, you may want to consider other options.

Smaller Battery Lifespan

Compared to vape pens, vape pod systems are very favorable. However, if you are comparing it to a box mod, the result is a far shorter lifespan for your battery. While pods do tend to recharge fairly quickly, a typical charge will last for only 2-3 hours of vape use. Due to this, the charge will run out quicker and need recharging more often than your typical box mod device.

Smaller Vape Juice Capacities

Vape pods are designed to be small and portable. While this is great for discretion and portability, vape pods tend to be on the smaller size. In fact, most do not contain more than 2mL concentrate. (This is significantly less than a typical box mod device will provide.)

Vaping Experience

Unlike some devices, vape pod systems offer a very specific type of vaping experience. They are made for mouth-to-lung hits. Due to this, vape pods are not recommended (or ideal) for all users.
