Yocan Evolve Plus Review

Evolution is a funny thing: if Darwin was right, we’ll probably figure it out in a few million years. Joking aside, we’re here today to discuss the Yocan Evolve Plus wax pen for your reading pleasure. Speaking of evolution, the popularity of waxes and concentrates have caught on like wildfire, and when there is a will, there is a way to make enjoying your product easier and more efficient.

The Evolution of the Evolve Plus

Traditionally, we enjoyed dabs with a glass rig and a blow torch. If you enjoy keeping your eyebrows, the traditional wax setup can be daunting, inconvenient to say the least, and a bit of a turn off for newcomers to the wax and concentrate revolution. Even if you did use the traditional setup, forget taking it on the go with you, let alone using a blow torch discretely.

Enter the wax pen. These wax pens look very much like your typical nicotine vape pen, and are comprised of three main parts: battery, atomizer and mouthpiece. Vape pens are the perfect foray into partaking in the wonders of wax for beginners, and in our opinion, the Yocan Evolve Plus is a great vape shop pen for beginners too.

The Evolve Plus comes equipped with an atomizer, battery, quartz dual coil, dab tool and a micro usb cable. The predecessor to the Plus is the Yocan Evolve.

The Wax Pen Features and Functions

Other than the improvements we have mentioned above, there are a few cool features and functionalities Yocan offers in the Plus that are also worth going into.

How the Battery Compares with other Wax Vape Batteries

So, in addition to the larger 1100mAh capacity, Evolve Plus features a 5 Click lock functionality to prevent the wax pen from powering on in your pocket or bag which leads to the loss of precious product. When you lock or unlock, you’ll see a triple flash of light to confirm.

The battery also features a fifteen second cutoff time. This prevents the wax vape from overheating when you are pulling on it for too long, or perhaps it is just randomly going off in your bag. This intelligent feature is a reminder to take a cool down draw so you can optimize the taste of the wax pen.

So what you’ll do is lay off the button but keep drawing in air. We do this – take a five to ten second hit, release the button and slowly draw. Then repeat.

What we respect most about this wax vape pen is that it’s built with a 510 threaded battery. If you love the battery, but want a different atomizer, you’re pretty much good to go. Yocan doesn’t force you to lock yourself into their products if you go from novice to intermediary vaper and are looking for more in an atomizer.

How to Charge the Evolve Plus Vaporizer

Charging is a snap, just two hours or less a pop, and with the Evolve Plus vape pen, you can use pass-through charging technology, which means you can vape while charging. However, in general, a battery should be left to charge, and then used when it is done charging.

How this Vape Pen Stands Apart

We mentioned that you might just love the battery – and for good reason. You can channel your inner spy with the secret wax container at the bottom. It’s non-stick wax container attached to the vape battery so you can travel with wax and load the vaporizer at any point. This is a great way for Yocan wax pen to set itself apart from the rest.

Also, worth mentioning again is the unique atomizer cap system that helps guard against wax splatter for a more efficient vaping experience. Less mess and less wax loss, which is a win win in any vape shop.

It is Time to Evolve – How to Use the Plus Vape

Loading up your vapor pen

• Twist and remove the mouthpiece to expose the atomizer.
• Unscrew the coil cap to get to the interior of the heating chamber.
• Load it up with a ball of concentrates of your choosing, but do not over pack.
• Load the glob directly on the coils but DO NOT touch and poke the coils directly.
• After loading, put the coil cap back on, screw the mouthpiece and you’re good to start vaping

Vape Loading Technique

• Load rice grain sized dab onto the top of both coils, try not to touch the coils or risk damage.
• If you’d like, lightly pulse the coil to help melt and spread the oil. (We don’t do this, we don’t want to waste product).
• Use 5-10 second bursts of coil heat for best use. Too high of temperature can distort the flavor.
• If you hold in the vapor longer, it’s less visible and more discrete

Cleaning the Yocan Evolve Plus

The first step is just to maintain the vape properly, which means NO over-packing, and using all wax loaded for that vapor session. Follow this advice and there is not much cleaning to be done. Especially after a vaping sesh, keep the vape pen upright to avoid wax leaking everywhere and things should be sticky-free for the most part.

The exterior of the pen can be wiped with a damp cloth, but this is an electronic so be smart about electronics and water. For the coils, if you’d like, burn off the residue by heating your pen repeatedly and using a wax dabber tool to scrape down sides of the chamber walls, lightly and without touching the actual coils. Frankly you can collect and vape this stuff. Some people may use a Q-tip to clean the walls of the heating chamber but it really is not needed, just maintain the piece, many people also damage the coils when attempting the Q-tip cleaning.

The Wax Vape Coils

The most commonly bought replacement part is your Evolve Plus coils, and that is common among all wax vapes. Although they are good quality, the sad truth is when you deal with wax you’re going to need to replace the coils eventually.

Part of it is out of necessity because you may have lost or damaged a coil. You may get a set of replacement coils for insurance reasons – no one likes to have a vape sesh end abruptly because you did not have a replacement wax coil.

Why Replace Wax Coils?

If you’re using your vape pen regularly (and we’re guessing you’re going to want to!) the flavor of the vapor can change some time using a wax vape. It is really a matter of the by product left behind after each time the coil is loaded with more wax. You’ll want to buy extra coils to ensure you get the freshest taste of wax on the regular.

Plus if you like to really taste the stuff, you can have a coil for this flavor and that flavor and then even one for the combined flavor, amazing-ness!

Tips and Trouble Shooting

• You’ll find the Evolve Plus only gets clogged up occasionally. Pulse the battery a few times to heat the chamber and free up the airflow. This is more of a short term solution and if the problem persists, you may need to clean the coil up.
• Don’t overload. The Evolve Plus has that secret silicone wax container attached, so load accordingly, add a dab about the size of a grain of rice or two maximum.
• Don’t over-tighten the threads. Now isn’t the time to tighten your threads like Hercules. When you over-tighten the thread it can be a pain to screw and unscrew, especially if there is any wax particles within the threads. If the threads get stuck, you’ll have to warm it up again, maybe even use pliers to get the damn thing off. Tighten the base to the battery enough so it is not flailing around, but no need to bolt it on.
• Don’t over-tighten the splatter cap on the wax coil. We gave ours one to one and a half turns. It’ll stay on fine. Also, the harder you draw on the splatter cap, the more you’re going to have to clean it, because shockingly – when you heat up the oil too much, blasting air through it, it’s going to splatter.
• Draw gentle – you’ll get delicious thick clouds and a cleaner wax vape.

Evolve vs. Evolve Plus

First, the Evolve Plus sports a bigger and better battery than the original. The Evolve runs on a single 650mAh battery, pretty typical for wax pens. Evolve Plus boasts an 1100mAh battery, adding power to your puffs and decreasing the need to charge as much. We’ve been using this pen and we’ve found that even after a day of consistent use, the Evolve Plus is still going strong.

The Evolve Plus dual quartz coil technology makes the flavor smooth despite the fact that you can’t adjust temperature. The coils also have what is called a “functional coil cap” to prevent any messy leaks. In addition to nixing splatter, it will help keep your mouthpiece from getting too hot as you use it. And speaking of vaping without disruption, the Evolve Plus lets you load up your vaporizer. Eyeballing it, the bowl appears to be almost three times as big as the original evolve.

The Big Picture

We recommend the Yocan Evolve Plus over the Yocan Evolve for the reasons we went into in the comparison section. Although the Evolve Plus doesn’t have all of a ton of bells and whistles, if this is your first vape pen for wax, it’s a really nice choice. Especially for the price range it’s in, you’re not taking a gamble, and the wax container with improved mouthpiece make it a better choice than your standard vape pen for the same price. We’re willing to bet if you’ve been using a dab rig and a blow torch, the portable and potent Evolve Plus vape pen will be a very welcome change.
