The Yocan Evolve is a dual quartz coil vape is a dual quartz-coil pen perfect for quick and discreet dabs on the go. The Evolve offers a clean, high-quality look and feel at an affordable price. First of all, you can trust Yocan, a company known for their craftsmanship and quality standards. All their products have passed CE, RoHS, and FCC certifications and the Evolve is no exception. It not only looks great, but it’s made of high quality components and metal where you can really feel the quality, unlike cheaper alternatives. It’s made specifically for wax concentrates, with smart coil tops designed to limit wax leakage and loss, an attribute essential for all of us that enjoy quality waxes. In addition, its quartz coils provide clean, flavorful hits.

There’s two versions of the pen, the original Yocan Evolve and the Evolve Plus, which I’ll compare later. While the later has a larger battery, the Yocan Evolve has a solid battery that is more than sufficient most of the time. While there are many qualities that make the Evolve a great wax pen, the smart coil top is really what separates this pen from the competition.

Top Attribute – Smart Coil Top

What really makes this wax pen stand out is its smart coil top that covers the wax coil. What’s worse than going to pick up your pen off the table, only to find that waxed leaked all over your pen and the table after your last sesh?

The Evolve smart coil top limits wax leakage and mess while still providing solid vape hits; an essential element for those of you who accidentally set their pens down horizontally after vaping. Learn the right way to store your vape pen here. I have to admit, I’ve been guilty of this a time or two after a solid vaping session.

While wax is fairly solid when cool, once the dual quartz coils kick in, all that semi-solid wax melts into a thin, silky liquid that can make a mess. Put the pen on its side in this state and the liquid wax drips up the side of the chamber and gets caught up in threads, making it a mess to take apart. Even worse, once that wax cools back down again, it hardens, making it even more difficult to open, not to mention all the wasted wax. It can even drip down to the mouthpiece, wasting even more wax and then you have to disassemble all those sticky parts and clean them.

Thankfully, the smart coil cap on the Yocan Evolve wax pen makes a nice seal over the coils, preventing wax from leaking out and saving your wax and reducing clean-up.

Not only does the top save you wax and a lot of hassle, but it also distributes heat, keeping the mouthpiece from getting too hot so you don’t have to stop vaping or worry about burning your lips. The smart coil top is really a game-changer on this pen. The $10-ish you’d save buying a cheaper wax pen will be quickly made up by all the wax saved by the coil cap, plus an awesome vaping experience in terms of flavor. So basically, the coil top saves wax, reduces clean-up and keeps the mouthpiece from overheating. It’s hard to advise buying a pen without this feature.

How to Charge the Vape Battery

1. Just plug the usb charger into a power source and the green light will turn on.

2. Next, screw the battery into the charger and the power button will flash red before staying on. In addition, the green light on the charger will switch to red.

3. You will know the battery is charged when the charger light turns green again.

4. You are good to go, just unscrew the battery from the charger and unplug the charger from its source.

Tip - Never leave your battery charging overnight

Loading the Wax Coil

1. Once the battery is charged, firmly screw the heating chamber onto the battery.

2. Next, unscrew the heating chamber top so you can see the quartz rods.

3. Quickly press the power button five times to turn the battery on. Now that the battery is on, press the power button again to heat up the quartz.

4. Now that your pen is ready, it’s time to load it up.

5. Use the dab tool to place a dab on or near the coils. Make sure not to overload it, use a dab more or less the size of a grain of rice. Also, don’t touch the coils directly as they can be damaged easily.

6. Once loaded, screw the top back on firmly but do not over tighten. Next, put the mouthpiece back over the coil and screw it into the rest of the vape pen. That’s it, you’re loaded and ready to hit the dab pen!

Getting Vapors from the Pen

Your battery should already be on, but if it locked for whatever reason, just hit the power button five times quickly to unlock it. Otherwise, just press and hold the power button to heat up and vaporize the wax.

Take gradual pulls as the wax heats up and you’ll make some serious clouds.

The Evolve’s automatic safety shut-off will kick-in after the power button has been held for a straight 10 seconds of and the power light will blink a couple times. When this happens, just release the power button for a second or two then press it again to keep vaping. Vape and repeat.

Tip: Take short cool down pulls after the safety shut-off kicks in to keep the airway clear

Maintaining and Cleaning the Vape

The Yocan Evolve doesn’t require too much cleaning but just like any vape pen, keeping it clean will enhance the flavor and quality of hits as well as extend the pen’s life. Coils will eventually burn out, but keeping them clean will get the most out of each coil and you can easily replace the coils when they do burn out. Here are a few simple tips for keeping your Yocan Evolve clean:

Tip #1: Avoid laying the pen down immediately after use. While the smart coil top limits leakage, it’s better not to test this when the wax is hot and liquidy.

Tip #2: Scrape away residue build up along the sides of the coil and push them downward to vape!

Tip #3: If you find it difficult to pull, you may want to clean the dab pen. A clean pen always hits better than a dirty one. It only takes a few minutes to clean it and you’ll be thanking yourself later.

To Clean the Wax Pen

Soak the mouthpiece and the coil top with at least 95% alcohol (You can pick this up for a dollar or two at any major drugstore or Target in the medical supply aisle).

If it doesn’t look clean right away, let it soak for a few minutes and everything should clean up nicely. Give all the pieces a nice warm water bath and rinse to remove any excess alcohol.

Let everything dry before putting the pen back together.

Is the Evolve Vape for me?

Do you like vaping wax and want a solid pen that won’t break the bank? Then I’d say the Yocan Evolve wax pen is for you. It’s a sleek, quality pen that looks like an e-cig for discreet dabbing on the go. The quartz wax coils provide excellent flavor and massive clouds. Additionally, it’s easy to use, has a strong battery life and comes from a reliable brand so you know it will last. When the coils eventually burn out or become too gross to for vaping, replacements are easy and affordable. While there are more expensive and complex wax pens on the market, the Evolve is a great wax pen that will satisfy both amateurs and veterans alike.

Evolve vs Evolve Plus

The Evolve and Evolve Plus are very similar vapes. Both are very solid vapes that offer more or less the same vaping experience. However, the main difference is the overall size. The Evolve Plus has a battery that is almost twice the size of the Evolve (1100mAh as opposed to 650mAh) making the Plus a great buy for long road trips or ski weekends. As an avid boarder, I’ve never gotten used to a dead vape battery while I’m all the way up in the mountains.

In addition to the bigger battery, the Evolve Plus also has a built-in silicone dab container at the base of the pen. Again, for those road trips and ski weekends, there’s nothing better than having your supply attached to the pen. To summarize, the Evolve and Evolve Plus are almost identical in functionality but the Plus has a few extra benefits. While it is larger, you get almost double the battery life and an attached silicone jar to store your wax right in the base of the pen.
