How to Choose a Glass Pipe

The Pros

Glass does not add any undesirable flavors to the smoke or herbs.  Glass pipes are non-porous and outside of some small crevices, they are very easy to clean.  The options are almost endless and they come in a plethora of shapes, colors and sizes.  You are guaranteed to find something to match your style and smoking habits.

Know the Differences

The term glass pipe includes some products that can vary quite significantly. If you want something small and handheld, do not get a bong, although mini bongs do exist. And if you want something that filters the smoke through water, then you will want a bong or maybe a bubbler. Each type of glass pipe has its own pros and cons so use our compare tool for easy side by side comparisons of any product on our website.

The Cons

Glass pipes, when put under pressure, can break. Typically, this is not a problem as the glass used to create glass smoking pipes is usually very durable because it is goes through a process that increases the strength of the glass considerably. If the glass pipe was not constructed properly, it may contain internal stresses that are naked to the human eye. These stresses can break when exposed to temperature change or mechanical shock. Glass Pipes are not as portable as a dry herb vaporizer pen, and not nearly as discreet.

What is a Glass Pipe

Glass Pipes are a popular tool for smoking dry herb and they have been popular for a long time. The term covers a wide range of products from spoon pipes, to chillums, bubblers and steamrollers. All are made of glass and deliver a better smoking experience than a metal or wooden pipe. You can find basic glass pipes for under $20 or we have a high-end glass with dead insect electroformed to the pipe.

Types of Glass Pipes

Each glass smoking pipe is unique. The majority of glass smoking pipes for sale are made by hand and no two are exactly alike. Glass hand pipes come in a variety of shapes, colors, and they all fall into a specific category

Chillums

Small, simple glass blunt tubes. To use, simply pack smoking material into the end, apply flame and inhale.

Spoons

The most common hand pipe that can be seen everywhere. Spoons come in all sorts of lengths but generally are around 4 or 5 inches and are very easy to handle while smoking.

Steamrollers

A hollow pipe with a bowl piece on one end, and a mouthpiece on the other. Both ends of the pipe are open, and the open end near the bowl functions as the carburetor. Steamrollers have a reputation for hard, hot, rips and are not recommended for beginners.

Sherlocks

The most whimsical of the bunch, Sherlock aka Gandalf pipes have a large bowl with a gracefully arching stem. Both of these pipes may or may not have a carburetor.

Bubblers

Hand pipes that utilize water like a bong. The design brings the smoke through water before it is inhaled. This removes tar and resin and causes the smoke to taste smoother.

Bongs

The ultimate glass smoking pipe which delivers huge hits. Bongs are larger, free standing glass smoking pipes that also use water to filter the smoke and deliver smooth hits.
