Not all screens are the same. Dry herb convection vapes use the metal mesh screens to filter and keep out small herb particles. On the other hand, combustion vapes can utilize glass screens to create a barrier between the herb and coil in order to create convection versus combustion.
When it comes to vapes there are a few types of filters, made from either metal, glass or ceramic. A vape usually will work with just one filter type and the materials here are not as interchangeable as they are when it comes to vape coils.
A filter screen is a vape part often found inside of the vape mouthpiece, specifically with dry herb vaporizers, although many wax vapes have some sort of filter as well, often built in. But filter screens can also act as barriers, specifically with herb vapes, to separate the herb from a hot coil. The separation creates convection versus combustion.
Not nearly as common and only found within very few vaporizers. The AGO vaporizer utilizes this type of filter which helps to keep the small particles away, plus the ceramic has its benefits versus metal screens.
There are vape mouthpieces out there with the filter screen efficiently built in. The screen does not come out and never needs to be replaced. When clogged, simply soak the entire piece to clean and clear the debris from the screen.
When it comes to convection vapes for herb, the filter screen will keep small particles away from your mouth. However, over time residue will build and restrict airflow. The options are to either clean or replace the screen to get the best airflow. If you have a combustion vape and instead want convection which creates vapors versus smoke, then get some glass screens that will create a barrier between the hot coil and herb.
