How to Choose a Filter Screen

This is not the most complicated vape part to deal with and there are not many variations. With that said, some vapes may require a specific filter screen so you should pay attention to that and not all screens function in the same exact way. Below we break down some information so you can have a more informed shopping experience.

Replacement Filter Screens

When shopping for new screens, simply look at the old ones, or try and remember what they look like if they are lost. The website has clear pictures so you can compare and contrast options very accurately. Most screens are fairly standard and they can also be cleaned, so keep that in mind too.

Filter or Barrier

Not all screens are the same. Dry herb convection vapes use the metal mesh screens to filter and keep out small herb particles. On the other hand, combustion vapes can utilize glass screens to create a barrier between the herb and coil in order to create convection versus combustion.

Screen Material

When it comes to vapes there are a few types of filters, made from either metal, glass or ceramic. A vape usually will work with just one filter type and the materials here are not as interchangeable as they are when it comes to vape coils.

Screen Size

The screen size is important in two ways. The overall size, which can vary with metal mesh screens and glass screens that have 3 standard sizes that don't vary. In addition to the overall size there are the actual holes, or spaces in the mesh or glass. Glass screens are standard but with the mesh screens, the wide the holes the easier it is to draw vapor, but also more herb particles may get through.

What is a Filter Screen

A filter screen is a vape part often found inside of the vape mouthpiece, specifically with dry herb vaporizers, although many wax vapes have some sort of filter as well, often built in. But filter screens can also act as barriers, specifically with herb vapes, to separate the herb from a hot coil. The separation creates convection versus combustion.

Metal Mesh Filter Screens

Dry herb vaporizers are very popular, and every single one has a filter screen. So with that said, most filter screen needs are associated with herbal vapes and they happen to be metal mesh screens. They are fairly standard although the exact hole size created with the mesh can vary by very small amounts.

Glass Screens

This is less of a filter and more of a barrier. The glass screens are common for use with combustion vapes. The glass create a barrier between the hot coil and the herbs. A hot coil will turn herb to ashes and create smoke along the way. However, the glass screen allows the hot air to heat the herb which creates vapors, a process called convection.

Ceramic Filters

Not nearly as common and only found within very few vaporizers. The AGO vaporizer utilizes this type of filter which helps to keep the small particles away, plus the ceramic has its benefits versus metal screens.

Mouthpiece Filter

There are vape mouthpieces out there with the filter screen efficiently built in. The screen does not come out and never needs to be replaced. When clogged, simply soak the entire piece to clean and clear the debris from the screen.

Why Buy a Filter Screen

When it comes to convection vapes for herb, the filter screen will keep small particles away from your mouth. However, over time residue will build and restrict airflow. The options are to either clean or replace the screen to get the best airflow. If you have a combustion vape and instead want convection which creates vapors versus smoke, then get some glass screens that will create a barrier between the hot coil and herb.
